The Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies (B.S.A.S.) program provides a comprehensive, four-year pre-professional education in the fundamentals of architecture. Organized into two stages—Pre-Architecture (years one and two) and Architecture (years three and four)—the program emphasizes design, building science, history, theory, and technology. Students may enter the program directly as freshmen or transfer from other institutions to complete upper-division studies.
Graduates of the B.S.A.S. program are well prepared for admission into advanced professional degrees, including the Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.), the Master of Architecture (M.Arch.), or the Master of Science in Architecture with a concentration in Facilities Management offered at Florida A&M University and at peer institutions nationwide. Many also pursue careers in the building industry, supporting architects and engineers, or branch into allied fields such as urban design, planning, environmental law, and real estate development.
The program is a limited-access major with competitive admission requirements. Freshman applicants and transfer students with fewer than 60 credit hours must present a minimum 3.0 GPA (4.0 scale) and meet standardized test score thresholds: SAT Reading 27, Math 26, Writing & Language 27; or ACT English 19, Reading 22, Math 22. Transfer students with 60 or more hours must hold a minimum 2.5 GPA. International applicants are required to demonstrate English proficiency with a TOEFL score of 173 (computer-based) or 80 (internet-based), or an IELTS score of 7.
Through its rigorous curriculum, the Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies program prepares students with the intellectual foundation, creative discipline, and technical knowledge necessary to advance to graduate studies or to enter the design and construction industries as versatile professionals.
