Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) is a historically black public
university in Tallahassee, Florida (USA). Founded in 1887, it is located on the highest
geographic hill in Tallahassee. It is the fifth largest historically black university
in the United States by enrollment and the only historically black public university
in Florida.
FAMU has been named the highest-ranked public historically Black college and university
(HBCU) by the U.S News & World Report 2021 Best Colleges ranking of Top Public Universities.
FAMU ranked 117 among Top Public Universities, up from number 123 a year ago. The
next highest ranked public HBCU lands at 136.
Additionally, the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering earned a spot on the U.S. News &
World Report badge-eligible list with a 69th ranking among the 206 Best Undergraduate
engineering schools offering doctorate degrees. The college is also ranked number
two among all Florida engineering programs.
