Inaugural cohort of grant academy.

The inaugural program supports the University's goal to achieve Carnegie 'Research 1' status.

Twelve faculty members at Florida A&M University (FAMU) have been selected to participate in a yearlong grant academy facilitated by the Office of the Provost and in collaboration with Hanover Research, a global research and analytics firm. Through grantsmanship workshops, one-on-one mentorship, and cohort-based support, participants will develop competitive grant proposals for external funding opportunities within their respective disciplines.

“This program exemplifies our strategic commitment to achieve Carnegie Classification Research 1 status,” said Allyson L. Watson, Ph.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs. “Through this grant academy, we are developing a culture of sustained academic excellence by empowering our faculty members to excel in their scholarly pursuits.”

The grant academy also bolsters professional development for emerging faculty researchers interested in honing their grant-writing skills to produce highly credible and fundable research proposals.

“The grant academy is a welcome addition to the programs and services offered through our FAMU Teaching & Learning Center,” said Reginald J. Perry, Ph.D., associate provost for academic and faculty affairs. “We hope faculty will continue to take advantage of interdisciplinary faculty learning communities like this that provide targeted guidance and needed resources to support their careers at every level.”

This year’s inaugural cohort was recommended by academic deans of six colleges/schools and represents disciplines in both STEM and the liberal arts:
