Rattler RISE

Following in the footsteps of our Living-Learning Communities (LLCs) and its successes, Residential Development Communities (RDCs) are the Office of University Housing (OUH) initiated programs centered around students with a similarly themed interest. These students live in the same community with professional/student staff, programming, and opportunities dedicated to holistically developing students around their specified area of interest.

Benefits of participating in Rattlers RISE:

  • Have dedicated live-in staff who assist in creating a comfortable living environment and space conducive to academic, personal and professional growth.
  • Have peer mentors and tutors dedicated to academic success.
  • Intentional programming, meetings and workshops to train and prepare students for obtaining internships.
  • Specialized leadership and community service opportunities to become engaged and involved on campus and in the community.
  • Access to a network of campus partners with on campus jobs opportunities.
  • Alternative spring break opportunities.
  • Students who live-on campus, work on-campus and participate in programs such as these are statistically more likely to graduate in less time with a higher grade point average than their counterparts.

At the end of this program, participants will:

  • Persist to the next academic classification level;
  • Obtain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher each semester;
  • Complete 30 or more hours of community service; and
  • Obtain an internship for the Summer of 2025.

RDCs are student affairs initiated programs operated in the Office of University Housing centered around students with similarly themed interest. These students live in the same community with professional and student staff, events and opportunities dedicated to holistically developing students around that RDC.

The Florida A&M University (FAMU) Housing’s Second-Year and Transfer Student Experience Program, Rattlers RISE, is a residence life initiative designed to create a community of university-wide campus partners focused on the ACADEMIC success and CAREER development for sophomore and transfer students who reside in living space on-campus.
Current FAMU Housing freshman residents rising to sophomore levels, meaning 30 hours or more and newly admitted transfer students
To participate in these programs, the student must reside on-campus in the designated living area.
Second-Year Experience applicants must have no less than 30 credit hours by May 6, 2024, and no more than 59 by August 28, 2024, to participate in this program. Transfer Student Experience applicants must meet all FAMU transfer designated requirements.
Polkinghorne Village is the designated living area for all students accepted to the Rattlers RISE program

No. While we partner with Academic Support Services to assist participants in reaching their academic goals, this program is not associated with any one College of study.

Only students accepted to a RDC are permitted to live in that RDC community. You have two options:

The person you want as a roommate can, if eligible, apply for the RDC as well. If accepted, you would then be able to request that person as a roommate in the RDC.

If the person you want as a roommate is not eligible for and/or not accepted to the RDC and you would rather live with that person instead of living in the RDC, you will need to cancel your RDC application.

Participants are fully expected to follow the provided road map for the program to include attending meetings, workshops, following the customized academic and professional development plans. Once accepted, you will be required to sign an agreement which highlights all expectations.
Notification of decision will be sent to applicants starting mid-May via FAMU email.

FAMU LLC programs are targeted at freshmen students and linked directly to their majors.  These RDCs are targeted at sophomore and transfer students focusing on not only academic success but professional development.  LLCs will be located in FAMU Towers and Polkinghorne Village.  These RDCs will be housed in Polkinghorne Village.
