About Me


Bobby Davis, Ph.D., is Associate Dean and Professor of Marketing in the School of Business & Industry at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.  He received his B.B.A. degree from Texas Southern University and his M.B.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  He has worked in the private sector as a Marketing Representative for IBM in East Lansing, Michigan.  He has written scholarly papers and articles in a variety of journals.  He has participated in faculty internships and faculty fellowship programs in both the private and public sectors. 

He has 44+ years of experience in higher education including, university teaching and research, assistant dean, director of planning and analysis, and director of hotel/motel educational program. Four of those years were spent as an assistant professor of business administration and director of the hotel/motel educational program at Savannah State College.  One year was spent as assistant director of planning and analysis and associate professor of marketing at Grambling State University and three years he served as associate professor of marketing at Southern University-Baton Rouge.  Thirty-six of those years have been spent at his present employer, Florida A&M University.  He has published scholarly articles in academic and professional journals such as “The Journal of Current Research in Global Business”, The Negro Educational Review”, “Global Journal of Business Research”, and “Applied Economics Letters”.  He has participated in faculty internship programs with Pepsi Cola Bottling Company, Honeywell Space Systems Division and the Chief of Naval Education and Training.  He has received numerous teaching awards during his tenure in higher education. 

Since the summer of 1989, he has participated in the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Summer Faculty Fellowship Program assigned to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) in Arlington, VA.  He has worked on a variety of challenging programs to assist the Department of Defense in executing its global security mission.  The most recent project during the summer of 2012 was the development of “DSCA’s Manager’s Internal Control and Audit Readiness Handbook” as the DOD plans to become audit ready by 2014.  Several of the previously assigned projects have led to publications in journals such as, “The Defense Security Institute of Security Assistance Management (DISAM) Journal” and “The Journal of the American Society of Military Comptrollers”.  In August of 2012, he was presented the Office of the Secretary of Defense “Group Achievement Award” for contributions in support of the Defense Security Cooperation Agency/Business Operations Directorate by the Honorable James N. Miller, Under Secretary of Defense for Policy. 

He spends his leisure time playing piano.
