About Me

Dr. Sonja L. Allen is a board-certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, an Assistant Professor of Nursing and the Women’s Health NP specialty track coordinator at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. She received her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, MSN in Nursing Education from Drexel University and BSN from Georgia State University. She began her nursing career in high-risk obstetrics, an area that further fueled her passion to serve women in need. With over 15 years of clinical experience in women’s health, realizing her desire to educate and teach future nurses, Dr. Allen began her career in higher academia where she specialized in maternal & child health and taught in a variety of settings. She has traveled abroad to South Africa and Sydney, Australia as a Nursing Advisor to collegiate students interested in learning more about healthcare in other countries. Dr. Allen is passionate about issues affecting minority women's health and pregnancy outcomes. This passion led to her creating Well Woman as an avenue to serve more women by providing a safe space to learn through education and building a sense of sisterhood and community.
