Dr. Carswella Phillips completed her BSN and MSN in Nursing from Florida A &M University as well as a Doctor of Nursing Practice with an emphasis in Nursing Administration from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. Dr. Phillips is a tenured, associate professor with a variety of teaching experiences in ASN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing coursework in both traditional campus and distance education settings. Her practice and teaching areas of interest include medical-surgical nursing, orthopedic nursing, primary care advanced practice nursing, health policy, nursing workforce sustainability, and interprofessional approaches to evidence-based practice and teaching integration.
While serving as faculty and/or coordinator of several undergraduate and graduate courses, Dr. Phillips has been instrumental in developing best practices designed to increase NCLEX and certification pass rates, increase academic integrity, and elevate program retention and enrollment among diverse student populations. She is a nurse consultant, virtual NCLEX prep educator, board-certified nurse educator, and adult-gerontology nurse practitioner. Additionally, Dr. Phillips is a tenured Associate Professor who serves as the Interim Associate Dean of the Adult-Gerontology and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner concentrations within the Graduate Nursing Programs at Florida A&M University.
Her research interests include nursing workforce shortage issues, experiential instructional practices, best practices among distance education programming, and implementation of evidence-based care in primary care and acute care settings. Dr. Phillips is also active in several state and national organizations including serving on the board of directors of the Florida Nurse Practitioner Network (FNPN) and member of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF), Chi Eta Phi Sorority, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and Sigma Theta Tau International Society. She is the recipient of the 2022 inaugural Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurse Faculty at Florida A&M University. She demonstrates a commitment to the vision of FAMU School of Nursing, excellence, and compassion for patients, families, colleagues, and students. She is an avid reader and enjoys traveling with her husband.
