Dr. Bushong is a professor of forensics and criminal justice in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice in the College of Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities, to both graduate and undergraduate students. His main research and interest is on medicolegal death investigation, focusing on postmortem intervals through histology, entomology, and archaeology.

He is a former command-level law enforcement officer, experienced in violent crime investigations such as homicide, police shootings, and terrestrial and underwater crime scene investigations before joining the academe. He has served over the last decade with the Florida Emergency Mortuary Operational Response System (FEMORS) through the University of Florida’s William R. Maples Center of Forensic Medicine at the College of Medicine.

Dr. Bushong provides nearly 30 years of investigative and applied education to students, offering opportunities to students to engage in hands-on medicolegal research and training. He is a member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and the Entomological Society of America.
