Honors Program Admissions Criteria

The University Honors Center has a separate admissions process from the University as a whole. The criteria for admittance into the University Honors Center depend on a student’s classification and enrollment status.

Admissions Criteria

  • Freshmen Students
  • First Time in College

  • High school seniors with a minimum GPA of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale, and 1200 on the SAT or 27 on the ACT should apply for admission to the University Honors Center.
  • In order to remain in the center, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA.
  • Current & Transfer Students
  • Current & Transfer Students

  • Continuing college and transfer students, and community college graduates with AA degrees with a strong academic background and a minimum GPA of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale may also apply for admission to the University Honors Center.
  • The latest point at which students may apply for admissions to the center is the first semester of their junior year.
  • In order to remain in the center, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

Current High School Seniors

The application requires responses for two writing prompts, high school transcript, ACT/SAT score, and two letters of recommendation.

Freshman student
Current FAMU Students (59 or fewer credit hours)

The application requires responses for two writing prompts and two letters of recommendation.

Transfer student
Transfer Students

The application requires responses for two writing prompts and two letters of recommendation. Transfer students must also provide previous college/university information and transcripts.
