Key Benefits of a FAMU MPH

Impressive Employment Connections Help You Succeed

Fueled by the FAMU Institute of Public Health's connections to hiring agencies like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the nation’s premier public health agency, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Congress, Florida Department of Health and other state local health departments across the country, and community health centers, MPH graduates progress quickly with solid opportunities in federal, state and local health departments – as well as jobs in the private sector (e.g., hospitals, clinics, pharmaceutical companies, consulting firms). Plus:

As the first MPH degree offered online at an HBCU and the first accredited public health program in North Florida, our program offers unique benefits:

  • The distinct advantage of being currently housed within FAMU's Institute of Public Health within the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  • As a synergistic complement for healthcare professionals—the FAMU MPH connects public health with additional basic science and health care disciplines (e.g., pharmacy, allied health sciences, medicine, dentistry, nursing) for more meaningful consultation with patients
  • Supports research and public health practice with a focus on health disparities that disproportionately impacts the poor and underserved (e.g., cancer, cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases, environmental health impacts, and access to care).
  • Provides online advisement by national and international public health experts and public health doctoral students. The FAMU Institute of Public Health also has the first Doctor of Public Health degree program in Florida and is the fifth program established in the Southeast.

With coursework that's independent and self-directed, our program is designed with sensitivity to the needs of working students in mind – with all the advantages of online education:

  • Learning materials delivered through streaming audio and video lectures
  • Support through virtual office hours
  • A research assignment, tailored to the public health areas that interest you most, that allows you to take advantage of your current work environment
  • Free access to SAS, the leading statistical analysis software

Our MPH program features a deliberate progression of coursework that allows students to quickly progress from internships to advanced job opportunities:

  • The online MPH program is five semesters or 50 hours for full-time students.
  • Part-time students take two courses at a time in sequence
  • The practicum for this program is completed in the final semester to afford maximum flexibility for our enrollees
  • Online advisors and a online practicum coordinator will work with you to help identify public health practicum sites
